Meant to be Filled by Not So Young Minds

J.K Rowling, an author whose work catapulted her status to dizzying heights, is back again with her latest offering ‘The Casual Vacancy’. This time she isn’t kidding as this novel targets the segment populated by mature audience. The devout Harry Potter fans might get shell shocked but they better believe it when I say Tooth Fairy isn't real or for that matter, even Santa Claus.

With The Casual Vacancy, Rowling takes a sharp decisive turn, which could be rewarding or disastrous. It would be indeed difficult, even for this gifted writer to win accolades from an entirely different lot of readers. There are slim chances of her not being taken seriously by adults. But,   given the odds that strongly favour her, one couldn’t predict anything to a T. Don’t take me wrong, I am not trying to put her down or something, as I have immense respect for this deft raconteur. I am just worried and anxious to find out how she makes this transition. Anyways, the other major and significant half of my mind is already convinced that this novel will be another literary masterpiece.

Want a peephole view of the plot? It goes something like this. The small serene town of Pagford catches the eye of chaos, as it lays bare and vulnerable after the sudden death of Barry Fairbrother. The events that quickly follow, scripts the most darkest chapter in the history of this peace loving town. Everybody seems to be possessed by the spirit of anger. Rich start spewing venom of hatred on the poor. Teenagers get more edgy with their parents. Wives couldn’t tolerate their husbands anymore. This raging fire of animosity is further fanned when the struggle to claim Barry’s seat on the parish council mixes greed and ambition in the air.

I know, all you guys out there can’t wait to set up camps outside the bookstores on the night before the book hits the shelves. I bet some of you guys must have marked your spots already.
